Strong winds pose challenges to firefighting work — and are causing the fires that broke out in the US state of Colorado on Friday night to spread quickly.

A string of wildfires ravaged Boulder County, Colorado, on Thursday. Among other things, strong winds move at speeds of up to 177 kilometers per hour Denver Post.

“We pray for the thousands of families who are now fleeing the fires in Superior and in Boulder County,” Polis wrote on Twitter.
