Manchester United, Premier League | United supporters plan a demonstration

This weekend, Manchester United lost points again, then to bottom club Everton. Thus, Manchester United’s hopes of next season’s Champions League matches after all the signs of the sun are hanging by a thread, while there are still seven games left of the season. This has led some supporters to focus once again on the ownership situation at Manchester United.

The planned demonstration is against the club’s American owners, the Glazers. In 2005, Malcolm Glazer bought a majority of the shares in the club, but today the club is owned by his six sons Avram, Joel, Kevin, Brian, Darcy and Edward Glazer. The owners have often been criticized by supporters on the basis of the failed results.

The group planning to protest on Saturday calls itself “1958”, which is allegedly named after the 1958 Munich incident in which 23 people lost their lives, including eight Manchester United players. The group encourages other supporters to participate in what they call the beginning of an ongoing, ruthless, peaceful and legal protest against the owners.

Nothing will change until the hose head is removed. It is rotten and starts from the top, as in any business. The club is a mess, so we have to act again and create attention, as stated in a statement published in The 1958 Twitter account.

The group plans to walk together to Old Trafford, then wait outside the field for seventeen minutes. Each minute should represent a year of Glazer family ownership.
