Previous investigations into Quran burning have been dropped due to incitement against population groups, but Malmö police still believe the report against Baludan is worth a try, he writes SVT.
– We think this needs a new review, Jamie Arkenheim at Malmö Police tells the channel.
The TV channel notes, among other things, that one person was investigated after the Quran burning in Malmö in the summer of 2020, but the public prosecutor then concluded that it could not be considered a criminal act.
– We think it was a good idea to do a new experiment, because we understand that this is offensive. At the same time, we have a strong freedom of expression that must be countered against this, says Arkenheim.
On Easter, the far-right Palaudan was active in many Swedish cities where he carried or warned of signs to set fire to the Qur’an. At the same time, violent riots broke out in the same areas.
Paludan also announced earlier on Wednesday that he is running in the elections in Sweden, and that he hopes to secure a seat in the Swedish parliament. His party’s tight course is originally Danish, but Paludan also holds Swedish citizenship.
In Denmark, he was convicted of inciting against a group of people as a result of racist statements directed against Muslims. He had also previously been convicted of threatening a police officer.
