(Elbil24): Every new passenger car on the European market must at some point pass the actual fire test in safety; The tough Euro NCAP crash tests.
The tests are the only common European standard found in safety tests, and manufacturers place great emphasis on achieving the goal of five out of five stars.
However, this is not always the case. Some time ago, for example, Renault Zoe got 0 out of 5 stars, and Dacia Spring got only 1 out of 5 stars. Both models are henceforth irrelevant for the Norwegian market.
And it turns out that even prestigious brands like BMW can get stuck. Euro NCAP recently tested a range of new cars, and the all-electric BMW i4 was one of them – and in fact the only car, along with the Toyota Aygo minivan, that didn’t make a full house. Instead, they both had to settle for four out of five stars.

Four-part test
Cars are measured according to how safe you are in them, how “kindness” the car is to other road users, if you are supposed to be unlucky and run into something or someone. Cars are also measured by how well they avoid an accident through their active and passive safety systems.
The tests are mainly divided into four parts.
- adults in the car
- kids in the car
- soft traffic
- protection systems

Here they get the moves
If we look closely at the results for the BMW i4, we see that the car scores very well in the first two points – more than good enough for five stars out of five. But in terms of pedestrian/cyclist protection and driver assistance, the car only gets a fairly good score, which ended up with four stars.
The conclusion stated that “the bumper provided good protection for pedestrians’ legs at all test sites, but pelvic protection was poor overall.”
Driver assistance works well, but the car gets a discount for how it warns when the car is on its way out of the way. Here you get 1.8 out of 4 points, which means “marginal performance” – or in the middle of the tree.
In other words, it’s a far cry from any total carnage we’re talking about here, even if the number four is naturally insurmountable.
