Boeing pilots make an emergency landing in Hawaii
A mechanical failure forces a Boeing engine to make an emergency landing. The cargo plane touches the water coming from Hawaii. The crew was able to recover, but one of the pilots was seriously injured.
A Boeing 737 cargo plane crashes off the coast of Hawaii. The U.S. Air Force has rescued two crew members, the FAA said. The pilots complained of mechanical failure and attempted to return to Honolulu. However, at 2:30 a.m. they were forced to land the transceiver plane in the water. “The FAA and the U.S. Traffic Safety Administration (NTSB) are investigating the incident.”
A Coast Guard spokesman told CNN that crew members were rescued with helicopters from the Coast Guard and fire department. The Coast Guard ship was also in use. A spokesman said both team members were taken to a hospital in Honolulu for treatment.
According to the local news site Hawaii News Now, one of the pilots, 58, is in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. The second pilot, 50, suffered a head injury and multiple cuts. Hawaii News Now reports that the engine has sunk. Remnants will be recovered. The transceiver usually carries cargo between the main Hawaiian Islands and, according to the FlyAware website, flew between Honolulu on the island of Oahu and Kahului in Mau.
According to investigators, the aircraft is at least 33 years old Boeing 737 Classic, not 737 Max. The Boeing 737 Max made headlines with two crashes in Indonesia and Ethiopia, with a total of 346 deaths in 2018 and 2019. In March 2019, the U.S. aircraft manufacturer’s previous best seller was banned from flying worldwide, which was only lifted by the end of 2020.
