On Wednesday, it became clear that among the candidates is Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss to become the leader of the Conservative Party – and the new prime minister of the United Kingdom.
Now it is up to the 200,000 Conservative Party members to decide which of them to be elected. The election result is due on September 5.
In addition to becoming party leader, whoever emerges victorious will also become the country’s prime minister after Boris Johnson. He had announced earlier in July that he would resign as soon as the party chose an heir.

Sunak got 137 votes, Truss got 113 and Benny Mordaunt got 105, thus out of the leadership battle.
Rishi Sunak was elected as a Member of Parliament for the Conservative Party in 2015, and is a former Finance Minister.
He was among the ministers who sent a letter of resignation to Boris Johnson on 5 July. Together with Health Secretary Sajid Javes, the two caused the downfall of the man that led to Johnson’s resignation.
Liz Truss was elected to Parliament in 2010 and is the first female Secretary of State. She also worked as a secretary for international trade, and her support for Brexit has made her very popular in the Conservative Party, he writes times.
