– Building set on fire – NRK Westland

Emergency services work to extinguish an industrial building in Leervikesen, Bergen.

– The building was set on fire. There are open flames above the roof, says the acting manager of 110 Central, Trondheim Landas.

An NRK tipster says there is a lot of smoke and ash in the air.

– Parts of the building are slightly burnt, but they seem to be under good control, says the tipster.

At 10.02pm, 110 West reported on Twitter that the fire service had brought the fire under control. A 300 meter safety zone was created which has now been removed.

Landas says the fire is not out, but the site is under control.

– Close the windows

The West Police District says on Twitter that there should be a lot of smoke at the site, and neighbors are asked to keep their windows closed. Smoke should be visible from both Askøy, Fyllingsdalen and Flesland.

Incident Chief of Police, Sinnov Malkenes, says Bergensavison Firefighters are attempting to provide ventilation.

– 5 people were evacuated from the building behind here where the fire broke out. Hopefully they can go back soon, he tells the newspaper.

According to Landas, people in the neighborhood and in the safety zone had to be evacuated due to concerns about a large propane tank near the fire.

There should not have been people in the building and there should not have been a risk of spread to other buildings. Police initially said the fire broke out in an old paint factory.

– Right now we don’t know anything about the cause, says Landas.

The road is closed and police are directing traffic at the scene. Buses do not stop at stops in Leirvikåsen, but travel between Olsvikskiftet and Ørjebekk via Olsvikveien until further notice.

The fire spread to several places in the Olsvik and Godvik area.
