Norway’s Morten Thorsby has once again managed to draw attention around climate change.
Morten Thorsby decided to replace No. 18 with No. 2 in Sampdoria, Italy.
He does this to draw attention to climate change. The second number represents the goal of the Paris Agreement, which is not to raise the Earth’s temperature by 2 degrees Celsius.
200 countries have agreed to this, and Thorsby wants to spread the message to football fans as well.

Struggle to find meaning in life
On the podcast Bropod, the former Stabæk player talks about how he previously had problems finding meaning in life through football.
Finding meaning is something I struggled with as a teenager. I had to play on the football field, but for me nothing made sense. I wanted to be better than everyone else, but at the same time I had a side of me that said “What are you doing? There’s a huge climate crisis going on and you guys are playing football.” Thursby says in the podcast it makes no sense.
I got to a point where I wasn’t sure if I wanted to play football anymore. I talked to my parents, and we came to the conclusion that I must spend my life fighting for what’s important. The best thing I can do is to master football as much as possible and keep talking about these important topics.
It gets a lot of attention
The media in England, Italy and the USA, among others, have covered Thorsby’s number change in recent days.
Thursby and Sampdoria kicked off the season with the Coppa Italia match against Alessandria on Monday.
The beginning of the series will not be shown until Monday 23 August, when Milan visits Genoa.
