On the same day as the deadline for a decision on her was expiring, Mette Frederiksen meets the press in Marienburg. announce it Become New elections in Denmark.

– There is war in Europe and economic uncertainty. Prices go up for everything we need. The important task now, she says, is to keep Denmark safe during the crisis.

We are now asking for the mandate to be renewed on Tuesday 1 November, when Denmark heads to the polls. Let’s take care of each other and the future. Let’s take care of Denmark. Happy election campaign everyone.

One of the parties supporting the government, Radical Leftwarned that Frederiksen would receive a motion of no-confidence against him if it did not occur within three months.

The deadline has already expired yesterday, but it has been extended by the same party until today.

By all accounts, the Frederiksen government wanted something like this. Today she chose instead to try locking with people.

I got a “nose” but it stayed

The background to the new elections is the so-called mink scandal, in which Denmark killed more than 15 million minks after the spread of the changing coronavirus among animals.

A commission concluded that the prime minister wanted to lie to the people when the massacre was carried out, but the government remained in place. This was, among other things, due to support from the radical left.

The party believes Frederiksen is taking political responsibility for the scandal, even if she is not legally responsible. They hope that the new elections will provide the basis for a new government that does not consist solely of social democracy.

The deadline they set delays elections by nearly eight months, the time when parliament’s term usually ends.

Frederiksen only got what the Danes call a “nose”. This means that she received criticism, but this did not have any consequences for her.

However, it has done so for ten civil servants. They got everything from scratch and scolding to being sent home from work, type Danish Radio in an earlier case.

Filters are flowing

The leader of the Conservative People’s Party, Soren Pape Poulsen, has already declared himself a candidate for prime minister.

At a news conference shortly after the news broke on Wednesday, he came out strongly against the government for what he described as a lack of energy support for the average Danish people.

Should we take care of the Danes’ private finances? Or should we make sure that something in the public sector is growing on the line, without caring whether or not people can pay their bills?

Party leader Jacob Elleman Jensen stands for Finster. Their press conference opened today.

Everything is always everyone’s fault with Mette Frederiksen. This is not true, and now the Danes have the opportunity to get rid of Mette Frederiksen and her government.

It must be rejected on account of self-promotion and arrogance, and then it must be turned against both humility and reflection. We must build trust in the political system.

Had to choose between truverd and seats in Folketinget

When Radikale Venstre came up with that demand three months ago, the Social Democrats were doing well in the polls, says Anders Byskov Svendsen, a political journalist for Radio Danmarks.

– It was seen as kicking in an open door, that Radikale Venstre did it here. But the radical leader wanted to do so because she was under pressure from members of her own party.

They wanted there to be consequences for the government as a result of the Mink report. However, it may seem that the election is costing the rival party dearly, he believes.

At the beginning of August, Frederiksen and her SPD had 22.9 percent support. It was the lowest level since March 2015.

Thus Radical Fenster had a choice between losing credibility by withdrawing the demand for new elections or losing seats in Parliament, Peskov Svendsen says.

Even if the extremists were to lose some mandates in Parliament, they would still be able to get some mandates.

Mitt Frederiksen is counting on them to be able to continue as prime minister.

Come despite the many crises

The attack on a gas pipeline in the Baltic Sea caused Radikale Venstre to make an extra round of calling for new elections. However, they agreed to stand their ground.

The party rejects that it is irresponsible to throw Danish politicians into an election campaign in the midst of a crisis.

These crises will not end in two, four, six or eight months. We don’t need an eight-month election campaign. Radikale Venstre’s party leader, Sofie Carsten Nielsen, tells Danish Radio that we need to get out on the other side, come together, and solve the problem together.

These crises also became a topic when Frederiksen opened the Norwegian parliament on Tuesday. She said the past three years as prime minister were very different than anyone could have imagined.

As examples, she highlighted the Corona pandemic, the war in Ukraine and the energy crisis. Frederiksen also said that many of the recent decisions taken in the National Assembly were the result of party cooperation across blocs.

When asked if she would call new elections, Frederiksen answered several times:

– I don’t think he’s getting any closer.
