Andy Robertson was full of praise for James Milner, after the veteran’s impressive game against Manchester City on Sunday.
Joe Gomez was probably intended for this position as a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back against City. But when Ibrahima Konate was unable to play due to a muscle injury, Gomez moved to central defence, while deputy captain Milner was given the role of right-back. He solved it perfectly, and kept City’s player, Phil Foden, in check for large parts of the match.
Many players have received criticism this season. A lot has been said, but that’s fine. We players are good at preventing that and staying together. I think there were many good performances in this match. Andy Robertson told Sky Sports after the match that this will keep many critics silent.
– I think Joe Gomez was great. And James Milner at right-back, God how well he played. I certainly wouldn’t be able to do what he did when he was his age. I thought he was in a class of his own.
It’s hard to pick individual players, but the two mentioned were exceptional. Virgil was good, too. I think we were all pretty good, to be honest.
Many praised it
Robertson wasn’t the only one impressed by Milner’s handling of Phil Foden. Jurgen Klopp didn’t spare the edge over the veteran after the match either.
