Denmark’s “luxury trap”: – Here the couple suffers debt shock for the ages

In a sunny car park in the small town of Herlufmagle on the idyllic island of Sydsjælland, a very tense atmosphere reigns.

In the final episode of the Danish season of “Luksusfellen” – featured here in Norway on Norwegian Viaplay – we meet Lars (58) and Rosa (51). The couple got married soon after they met, since the religious community considers it part of who you are supposed to be married in order to live together.

But when they agreed to each other, it meant the simultaneous merger of two messy economies – one worse than the other.

Now experts Kenneth Hansen, 38, and Mette Djerness, 33, have tasked the couple with writing what they think they each owe on their little blackboard.

The answer comes as a shock.

broken conclusion

When the couple turns their tables, they both agree on one thing: Rosa’s financial situation is worse than Lars’s. However, it will soon become clear that the “problems” do not come close to describing the situation in which Lars and Rosa found themselves:

The summary shows that Rosa has a debt of DKK 4,420,000 (which is equivalent to just over six million Norwegian kroner). Lars has a debt of 1,199,000 DKK (1.6 million NOK).

In total, the couple’s total debt is 5.6 million DKK – that’s 7.67 million NOK.

– It was a shock that I had 650,000 more debts than I thought, says Lars vividly shaken.

Rosa previously applied for debt restructuring, but was denied because the probate court believed that she and Lars were renting an expensive house. But this does not mean that the pair have switched to something cheaper.

Despite the fact that their total debt is huge, on the contrary they dream of buying their own debt.

– There is something wrong

The next day, the stage was set for the classic “Luxusfallen” with budget breeding:

The monthly income of the spouses is distributed, in the form of bills, to the various items of expenditure in order to have an overview of the purpose of consumption – and for what it is not.

The last item on the board is bad debt. Kenneth Hansen puts down the few notes he has left after putting them so hard along the way.

– When Kenneth paid the money, I thought: “Something is wrong. Why does he not have more?”, Rosa tells the TV team.

It will turn out that Hansen needs more money than the bag he brought with him and which Mate Djerness was carrying for him. Much more!

debt record

After he’s got one batch of cash after another, it turns out the pair keep a questionable record of the biggest distressed debt in the show’s 15-year history.

110,400 DKK is the amount lost from creditors – every month. In the Norwegian currency, this corresponds to NOK 151,770.

Without a miracle, we can bury ourselves. We can’t keep a car or a dog. Rosa lost Comments We can’t stand anything, we just have to work hard together.
