Nils Halstensen Scaber is now 20 years old and can already show off a long list of roles. This fall, he appeared in the NRK series “Etterglow”. Here we meet him as Lars – the son of cancer-stricken Esther, played by Nina Ellen Odegaard (42).

Big challenge
When Se og Hør interviewed him regarding the release of the TV series, he made good reflections on his role.
– So I play a boy who receives a serious message about his mother’s cancer, but at the same time he is young. How does he balance the hard times with love and a second life? Because life goes on on other fronts, it points to the existential dilemma.

– How can you prepare for such a role?
– It’s tough. I just try to feel what I feel – when I think of the word cancer. What would it be like if someone close to me was affected? I try to play on this sadness.
Niels experienced these feelings for real.
– My best friend’s father had cancer – and the disease was at its most severe while we were filming the show. So my companion lived the life I play myself in “Etterglowd”. At the same time as his father fell ill, it was also Russian time. What are you doing? Should you go out with friends or stay at home with your family? There are many battles being fought. Unfortunately, Niels said, the father died.

In the city of the king
He is currently attending the Performing Arts Program at Johan Borups Folkehojlen in Copenhagen. In December, he ended his year-long stay in Denmark.
– It’s a kind of alternative theater, and it’s also fun to play. Then he said and smiled cunningly, then we’ll see what happens in the end.

– You have creative parents. Have you felt the call all the way since you were a kid?
– Yes, it is possible. I always thought it was fun to be behind the scenes. For example, when my dad played Trond-Viggo Torgersen – I was able to see how things worked. I felt like my “plan” had to have something to do with stage life. But only after high school did it become clear to me that there was an actor I wanted to be. And now I’m fully committed to that.
What is the best advice you received along the way from your parents?
Both father and mother are good at talking to me if there’s something I’m wondering. Although they know a lot in each of their fields, it is also a good idea to separate these worlds in some way. I stand on my feet.
The new life of the TV 2 profile
In Copenhagen, Niels lives in a communal form. Although he is out of the nest, his mother remains in very good contact.
She calls me a lot and sends me messages. It’s really nice. I kind of noticed that she misses me a little bit. But I also feel so much better at accepting that I am now living my life!
