Electric cars are taking more and more market share. But not everyone agrees that this is the only way or the best. The other alternative to a zero-emission car is hydrogen cars.
This was a much more turbulent start. Not least due to the presence of a highly developed infrastructure network. In Norway, for example, there are only a couple of places where you can fill a tank with hydrogen.
However, work is underway at several levels to develop both the technology – and to get a much better network of stations.
This fall, a new hydrogen car was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show. Many were surprised by the newcomer – about whom there was no prior talk.

The newcomer is called the Hopium Machina – it will be released in 2025. A large, elegant sedan – with a sporty design.
Currently, not much information about the car has been disclosed. But it will go from 0 to 100 km / h in less than five seconds, and has a top speed of 230 km / h.
The goal is not to be the fastest – but to offer a luxury family car. Among other things, it will compete with the Porsche Taycan, we were told at the auto show.
The design is flexible – with frameless doors and a coupe-like roofline. The plan is for the Machina to go into production in 2025.

The range is most impressive. It will cover 1000 km.
If you find a hydrogen station, it only takes two to four minutes to fill up the tank.
Hobium expects the hydrogen station network to be more developed in the coming years. Significant investments are currently being made in connection with this in several places in Europe.
This can give the “Tesla effect” – but not on an electric car
More benefits
Some of the things that make hydrogen so attractive to look at more are that it’s quick to fill up the tank, that you save weight by not having to lug around a large battery pack, and that the car isn’t affected by temperature changes – and that hydrogen cars are much more environmentally friendly in production.
In Norway, we are first and foremost introduced to hydrogen cars via the Toyota Mirai – launched two generations ago. But for now, sales are very limited.
