Health, Tobacco | Companies Ask Govt to Introduce Total Ban on Tobacco – Out of the Question, SP-Top Responds

Principle: In March, Health Minister Ingwil Kerkol (AP) will present a public health report, where a new tobacco strategy is expected. Both the Cancer Society and the National Heart and Lung Association (LHL) have put forth several proposals to further tighten tobacco policy.

– Tobacco contributes to many diseases, suffering and lost years of life. If the goal of a tobacco-free society is to be achieved, offensive measures such as sales bans must be used for future generations, says Frode Jahren, secretary general of the LHL. Everything.

The Norwegian Cancer Society wants a tobacco-free Norway by 2030, where less than 3 percent of the population smokes. Banning sales to anyone born after 2010 is one measure that contributes to this, the association points out.

Geir Pollestad, the parliamentary deputy leader of the Center Party, tells NTB that the ban is something they do not accept.

– The Center Party’s parliamentary group is questionable as it advocates a ban on tobacco and tobacco. “It’s not a matter of the government coming to a decision, it’s the view of the central party, we don’t think the Labor party will agree on the cut-off line,” he says.

– If prohibition is the wrong approach, what actions are appropriate?

– I don’t want to decide that now. We need to get back to that, says Pollestad.
