To prevent people from associating Nokia with mobile phones, the company has now redesigned its logo.
“In most minds, we’re still a successful mobile phone brand, but that’s not what Nokia is about.”
CEO Pekka Lundmark says this in an interview ahead of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on Sunday, Bloomberg reports.
Almost ten years have passed since the Finnish company Nokia, which supplies equipment to the telecom sector, stopped making mobile phones. However, this is what most people associate with the company.
Now the company’s logo has been redesigned, specifically to change people’s perception of the company.
“We want to launch a new brand focused on networking and industrial digitization, which is very different from the old cell phones,” says Lundmark.
In 2014, the brand was bought by Microsoft, and today Nokia phones are sold by HMD Global.
You will take market share
According to Lundmark, Nokia will increase market share in the company’s business within network equipment for wireless service providers.
He said Nokia now had “the ammunition and tools” to take market share without sacrificing profit margins.
Among other things, the company can thank the restrictions imposed by a number of European countries on Nokia’s Chinese rival Huawei. Several countries have closed Huawei’s access to sell parts for the 5G network.
Nokia also wants to drive growth in its business selling private 5G networks to businesses.
