Akershus district is revived, and a new district council will be elected in the fall. It provides new opportunities for a better course than those set by Ap and Sp for Viken today. One of the first things that should signify failure is the red and green pattern of pupils who go to their local school, and that it is the school bureaucrats who have to decide which school.
We must go back to the scheme where pupils can choose their own school.
More people would complete and master high school if they had a say on the team about which school to attend. For some students, it is important to stay with their friends, while others want a new opportunity to establish themselves in a social community different from the one they had before. There should be room to do both, without having to provide evidence of why you want something other than the usual.
I know students who would like to combine scientific mathematics with fields of study other than their major of study, but since the school designated by the administration as your local school does not offer this option, the dream of becoming an architect becomes difficult to achieve.
Other schools reasonably nearby do not help to offer the group you are looking for. When it’s not your local school, you end up hopelessly at the back of the waiting list.
In the current system, the selection is actually made when the system locates your local school. She concludes dreams of the future.
The Tories believe we can’t have it this way and we want to go back to the pragmatic system we had in Akershus when the Tories ruled. Then the students were not assigned a neighboring school that someone had chosen for them, but were allowed to choose their own. It worked out well because at the same time we kept a number of school places which were distributed at our discretion to prevent anyone from having to travel for too long.
Some of our students require further follow-up until they complete their secondary education. There may be a need for professional reinforcement or a need for safety around them. There is an increasing tendency for young people to struggle mentally. For some, this results in them not being able to complete a secondary education, while others show even more dismal statistics.
We can think a lot about why this is so, but Høyre believes we must address the challenge we see many of our students face.
Therefore, we will continue to strengthen health nurses and environmental workers, not least developing a system of mental health teams for schools so that schools and pupils have access to quality experience and the way forward. This is going to cost money, and while it’s certainly nice to get a free school meal, I think that’s a more important priority.
The people of Akershus don’t have to spend NOK 377 million on new county borders with the Viken solution, but PT and Sprech have won that battle.
We don’t take rematch around rematch. We will focus on working for better schools, better roads, public transportation, good environmental and climate measures, and contributing with municipalities to the flourishing of local volunteering, culture and sport.
