Many have been waiting for a car for a long time

Large parts of the Norwegian new car market have been unbalanced in recent years. Where we have long been accustomed to receiving a car relatively soon after ordering, delivery times and queues are suddenly the new normal for many models.

At first I hit electric cars in particular. Then came the Corona pandemic, with subsequent problems in terms of parts, logistics and transportation. It also caused delays in many other types of cars.

But now things are starting to look up with many brands. Many cars in stock. If you do not have overly specific wishes, for example, color and equipment, this means that in many cases you can get a car almost the same day.

There are now many cars lying around at Norwegian dealers – and at import facilities. This photo is from Bekkelaget in Oslo, where importer Harald A. Møller owns many cars

I got several cars

One of those who can now perform much faster than before is Toyota. Among the models available for delivery from dealers or from Toyota’s own warehouse at short notice is the bZ4X electric vehicle. In February, it was the second most popular vehicle in the country, according to Road Traffic Information Board figures.

The reason, among other things, is that the Norwegian importer has access to more cars than before.

The following Toyota models are ready for delivery almost immediately:

  • bZ4X
  • C-HR
  • Land Cruiser
  • Yaris
  • Corolla

That’s how long it took Norway’s top five sellers to wait

early; Here at Broom, we first met the bZ4X, when we got to test a camouflaged prototype in Barcelona.

March or April

– When the need for a new car arises, it may require some to wait a long time for delivery. We have taken care of car insurance for the Norwegian market, and several of our popular models with different specifications are available to customers as early as March or April. These are low-end, low-emission models, and they’ve taken off well in the market,” says Piotr Pawlak, president of Toyota Norway.

Much has been written about the bZ4X electric car in recent months. The first range tests raised serious questions about the way the car showed remaining range – and how far it actually went.

We hadn’t seen a battered starter recipe before

The start: The bZ4X electric car had a rather difficult start in Norway. But deliveries are now taking place on what is Toyota's first electric vehicle.

Also applies to a legend

Customers who wanted to cancel their car purchase were allowed to do so without charge. At the same time, Toyota also claims that many of those who bought the car are very satisfied with the car:

– We are pleased with the growing interest in the bZ4X. Not least, we are now receiving a lot of good feedback after an increasingly large percentage of owners have had positive experiences with the vehicle and its qualities. More people need to express these positive experiences in their own social media groups, says Espen Olsen, CIO of Toyota Norway.

But it’s not just the electric car that Toyota can now deliver quickly. This also applies to the C-HR, Yaris and Corolla hybrid cars. Moreover, the car that is truly a legend in the Norwegian market: the Land Cruiser.

It has everything you need to succeed in Norway

RECHARGEABLE: The RAV4 has been a hit for Toyota in Norway for generations. Now it's the rechargeable hybrid of choice for the vast majority of customers.

Some RAV4 waiting time

The RAV4 family of SUVs has been one of the best-selling cars in Norway for several years, regardless of its class. In its best years, it sold up to 5,000 copies a year – and there are more than 50,000 RAV4s on Norwegian roads.

Here it started with petrol and diesel engines. Then came what Toyota calls a self-charging hybrid, before it is ready for a plug-in hybrid in 2020.

Here, there was a delivery time from the beginning, has Toyota been able to do something about it now?

– There’s still some RAV4 waiting time, but we’ve improved delivery times here, too. Currently, new September orders are estimated to be delivered for the rechargeable variant, Espen Olsen concludes.
