“I am so grateful and blessed to have had such an amazing journey in Formula 1 and I know my story will continue. Thank you to the Mercedes-Benz team, who have been my family for the past seven years. And Lewis Hamilton you are the absolute best. It has been an honor and a pleasure to stand by your side. Lewis Hamilton made a crucial statement about his team after finishing fifth at the start of the season in Bahrain – defeating, among others, Fernando Alonso in an Aston Martin. Hamilton later expressed that the people in the Mercedes team did not listen to him until the start of the World Cup.
At the press conference in Jeddah, the Briton retracted this statement.
– In the past, it wasn’t necessarily the best choice of words. I mean, of course there are times when you don’t get along with certain team members. “What’s important is that we continue to communicate, we continue to stick together,” said Lewis Hamilton. gpblog.com.
His contract with Mercedes expires this season, and speculation is rife about what happens next.
– I don’t think Lewis will leave Mercedes, says team boss Toto Wolff after seeing Hamilton and team-mate George Russell struggle in training in Jeddah.
But he also realizes that it can happen:
“If he wants to win another championship he has to make sure he has the car to do it and if we can’t prove we can give him the car in the next two years then he has to look everywhere else,” Wolff says according to Sky Sports. And he adds that he doesn’t think Hamilton has reached that point yet.
