British tabloid publisher admits to illegally obtaining information on Prince Harry
Emergency: Prince Harry leaves a court hearing in a case against a British tabloid in March. Another tabloid’s trial – the Daily Mirror – begins on Wednesday.

The Mirror Group, which publishes the Daily Mirror tabloid, admits, among other things, that it illegally obtained information on Prince Harry, but denies hacking the phone.

The admission was made in court documents outlining how Mirror Group intends to defend itself in the phone hacking case, which had its first day in court on Wednesday.

They insist they did not hack the phones of either Prince Harry or the others who are suing the publisher and also say the lawsuit comes too late anyway.

But the Mirror Group acknowledges there is some evidence of “instructions by third parties to engage in other types of illegal information-gathering in relation to each of the claimants”, which then includes Prince Harry.

Mirror Group unreservedly apologizes for all of these instances of illegal information gathering and assures plaintiffs that it will not happen again, the documents said.
