Liverpool sign the 14-year-old from Wolverhampton

Liverpool’s first signing this summer will not be Alexis McAllister or Mason Mount, but instead 14-year-old Harvey Owen from Wolves. This is what David Lynch wrote in his article Football from the inside.

According to Lynch, the two clubs have agreed a transfer fee of £800,000 for the young talent. It is slightly more than Wolves would have received in compensation if Liverpool had entered directly into a contract offer for the player.

Owen played football for the national team at under-15 level and has been with Wolves since he was seven years old. He will join Liverpool’s academy in Kirkby in the summer.

You must find talent at home

Owen is described as a great talent who can play on the left flank in defence, in either a four or three defence. In the future, he could fit in well with Liverpool’s new formation, with Trent Alexander-Arnold moving into midfield when the Reds have possession.

After the British exit from the European Union, it has become more difficult to bring in young players from abroad, and it is forbidden to bring in foreign players under the age of 18. Regulations are under review, but in the meantime Liverpool must look for young talent at home.

Ben Doc, who was brought in last year, appears to be a heavy hitter so far and it will be exciting to follow Owen’s development through the academy.
