– This is starting to become a little more important now. People start mowing sooner than they think because the crops are stagnant as a result of drying out.
That’s what the district head of Achter Pandelag Knut Erik Ultweit says.
Southern Norway is dry in many places, and many sunny days await.
Ulltveit doesn’t want to escalate the crisis yet, but says many are now taking weather forecasts into account with more pressure.
A dry season awaits
Meteorologists have said that there will be no rain in many places for the next two weeks.
– The end result is that farmers have to buy fodder from others. Getting enough feed is a question, but Ulltveit says it’s too early to say anything about that.
He says there is no question of high-level readiness at the moment, but the topic was raised at the local team’s board meeting this week.
– There are many conditions to facilitate irrigation, but it is not so easy to achieve everywhere.
Knut Erik Ultvet is president of the Norwegian Farmers’ Union in Aktor. He believes many farmers learned a lot from the dry summer we had in 2018.
