– If he had come earlier, I would have persuaded him to play for Scotland

Alexis MacAllister has become the first player to buy from Liverpool this summer. The fact that his name doesn’t quite sound South American has caused a lot of people to react, including Andy Robertson, the Scottish captain.

– I hope McAllister comes to us a little earlier, so I can convince him to play in Scotland soon!, says ‘Robbo’ to Sky Sports.

The 24-year-old midfielder was born in Santa Rosa in Argentina, but the namesake hails from Ireland.

“According to our family, we come from Ireland, not Scotland,” his father stated to The Athletic in 2020.

– When we are together they always say that our ancestors came from Ireland, but I don’t know if those who preceded them came again from Scotland and went to Ireland from Scotland and that our relatives came from there. He said but we say we come from Ireland.

Robertson is very pleased with the purchase

But back to Robertson – he is very happy to have bought Mac Allister from Brighton. The Argentine costs 35 million pounds sterling.

He’s a great player, and I’ve played against him for the last two or three years. He has achieved special things with Brighton and Argentina, winning the World Cup. The left-back says he’s still relatively young.

It’s a very good signing for us. We managed to get it done very early on so he could be with us in pre-season and he could settle in. He will be successful in this club. He has everything he needs and we will help him as best we can. I’m looking forward to seeing him and we’re looking forward to welcoming him into the dressing room, so I can’t wait to see him in the Liverpool kit,” he says.
