Scientists: The discovery makes it possible to reverse human aging

Examination of mouse cells for specific molecules

What US researchers have now investigated is whether it is possible to reverse the aging process of cells and turn back the biological clock without making the cells so “young” that they can become cancerous.

To this end, the researchers screened mice cells for specific molecules which, when combined in various ways, can reverse the aging process of cells and thus make them younger.

Six different chemical cocktails

They were able to find six different chemical cocktails that could reverse cell aging in less than a week. Their research, “Chemically Induced Reprogramming to Reverse Cell Aging,” was published in the journal Aging.

Researchers say this discovery has the potential to revolutionize the fight against aging and aging-related diseases and injuries and makes it possible to rejuvenate the entire body.

In the past, the only way to change the aging process of cells was to use gene therapy, which is very expensive and also associated with certain risks because it involves the introduction of genetically modified material into the body.

Smaller with one grain

“In the past, we were only able to slow down the aging process. With this new insight, we have the ability to actually reverse it,” explains research leader David A. Sinclair, professor in the Department of Genetics at Harvard University.

Before the discovery can be transferred to humans, six different types of chemical cocktails must be tested on mammals to ensure they are safe for humans. Chemicals have been used as medicines, but they have some very special properties regarding the aging process of cells – especially when combined.

“With this new knowledge, we have the ability to reverse the aging process with a single pill, and we can do everything from improving vision to providing effective treatment for a wide range of age-related diseases,” says Sinclair.
