– We have no control, it will take some time until we do, he says Fire Chief Jan Roelde at Fire and Rescue Region Kristiansand.
The police received a report of the fire around 14:00 on Friday afternoon.
The fire is said to have started in a rooftop solar panel and spread further. It will now burn on three surfaces. Two of the buildings are likely to be completely damaged, according to the fire service.
– We won’t get to. It’s like splashing water on an umbrella when there’s a fire under the umbrella, Roled says.
It is also believed that there will be damage to the third housing unit.
There should not be people inside any of the damaged housing units.
Operations Commander Alexander Gorman said the evacuees were unharmed by the smoke.
It is very dangerous to send the crew
The fire spread to two residential units. The fire brigade cannot send crews.
– Roeld says it’s too dangerous to send people home when the roof falls off.
The fire brigade struggled to douse the flames from the ground. At around 2.30pm a lift is in place and will make firefighting work faster.
Have a conversation with the neighbors
Smoke from the fire billows toward a nearby nursing home where people are staying.
– We have an ongoing dialogue with the neighbors who live in the house. If smoke should get in, they come out easily.
Those living in the care home have been told to turn off the ventilation system.
