Michael Edwards is returning to football, but not as sporting director

Famous former Liverpool sporting director, Michael Edwards, left the club last year and has since been linked to a number of jobs without fruition.

Chelsea and several foreign clubs have been mentioned, without him holding other jobs as sporting director. And now it is finally known what he will do – alongside another player with a past at Liverpool.

David Ornstein reports from The Athletic That Edwards will work with Ian Graham, who created a new company called Ludonautics.

The company must be able to provide expertise to ownership groups and teams that want to develop and succeed on and off the field.

He could work at another club

Edwards’ role at Ludonautics wouldn’t prevent him from getting a permanent job elsewhere, should one arise – but he has no plans to take on a sporting director job at this point.

Both Edwards and Graham are said to have rejected numerous offers from clubs to take the ‘Liverpool model’ to them. Now they will prefer to work as consultants and help many different clients and clubs, and it is not certain that it will only be related to football.

There has already been interest in their services, and the plan is to launch Ludonautics in 2024.
