Famous actress Kjersti Holmen passed away in September 2021, at the age of only 65. She was a familiar face in theatre, film and television for 40 years.
Holmen was ill for a long time, and she died in Okerengemt where she lived the last part of her life.
– big loss
In August, it was learned that her sister Liv Holmen (79 years old) had written a book for her deceased sister. The autobiography is called: “To Kirsty”. I Miss You”, and was released on August 18.
In an interview with the house Now speaking about her sister’s death, Liv says writing the book was difficult, as Kirsty was a very private person.
– I didn’t want Kjersti to disappear like this in silence without being honored, but a normal biography would be difficult. I realized I couldn’t write about it without mentioning the disease. I wanted to show respect for Kirsty at the same time as I may have gotten into something Kirsty didn’t like. There were a lot of boundaries, and it was about taking care of Kirsty, Liv tells Gamet.
Kirsty Holmen lived with this diagnosis for nine years
Kirsty was the center of the family and a source of joy, Liv continues, but the final period of her life was marked by illness after she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.
Liv doesn’t remember exactly when or how they discovered something was wrong, but she remembers well when she was diagnosed with the serious illness.
– When the diagnosis was made, we relatives sat down and said to each other: “Is this possible?”, “How is it possible?”, “Alzheimer’s, she is so young.” At that time, the disease was much more taboo. Now there is more openness, and more people are coming forward and saying they have the disease. “It’s very important,” says Liv.
– He was with me all my time
There is undoubtedly more openness about Alzheimer’s and dementia. Among others, NRK had great success with the program “Dementia Choir”.
Liv, on the other hand, finds it difficult to watch this type of TV show.
– They were all very happy, which is very good. There was no room for joy with us. Everything was black and painful and completely unimaginable.
In conclusion, the sister says that writing the book about Kjersti helped her with her grief, and says that her sister was very present in her life and that she admired her greatly.

-The best mother in the world
Previously, he had a son, Kirsty Elias, 36, opened up to Dagbladet. He said at the time that his mother loved him and his brother more than anything on earth.
– My mother was the best mother in the world. I used the word “love” a lot. She said she loves us. All the time. As an adult, it shocked me that people didn’t say that to their loved ones, but then I gradually realized that my mother might have been the one who used the word more forcefully and too much. She loved Isak (son of Kjersti Holmen, editor’s note) and she loved me more than anything else on earth.
