– The government’s climate policy will “turn off the lights” in large parts of winter country Norway, says Julie Brodkarp, executive director of the Maskinentrepreneurenes Forbund (MEF).
Brodtkorp does not believe the government will ban diesel-powered machines from 2035 onwards. In a column in the magazine Byggeindustrien he wrote “innocent and fearful about electrification”.

Strong warning on new car tax
– As Executive Director of the Mechanical Contractors Association, I, together with our members, have spearheaded the green transition. But many of the proposals in the Green Book seem to have been designed by people far removed from Norwegian reality.
Brodtkorp believes that banning diesel-powered construction machinery is completely unrealistic. First, the Norwegian road system requires the world’s heaviest and most powerful construction machinery at both the construction and operational levels.
Second, there are no machines or charging stations to keep the saltfjellet or dovrebjellet open in extreme weather conditions.
– It’s sad that the green shift has slipped into the realm of fantasy. When you read the Government’s Green Paper 2024 page by page it’s almost hard to believe what you’re reading. Here, restrictions and regulations have been announced that will turn Norway’s winter roads into ice-covered roads and shut down major routes across the country. , writes Brodtkorp.
