via X messaging service Barcelona announced that the club will investigate any racist incident that may have occurred during the match against Real Madrid.

The statement stated that FC Barcelona will always defend football values, such as respect for opponents.

Spanish media published a video purportedly showing a Barcelona fan calling Vinicius Junior a “monkey” and an object resembling a banana peel being thrown at the Real Madrid winger.

Vinicius was repeatedly subjected to racism from the stands during football matches. Last weekend, a spectator was expelled from the stadium after inciting the Brazilian player.

Earlier this month, Vinicius testified in a lawsuit regarding racism against him in a match against Valencia last season. In Brazil, a separate anti-racism law is called the “Fini Junior Law”. It was adopted to enable sporting events in Rio de Janeiro to be stopped if racism occurs during the tournament.
