Three students have been banned from NTNU after using artificial intelligence (AI) to cheat in exams.
This summer, five NTNU students were suspected of cheating. NTNU’s Student Affairs Committee has now dealt with four of the cases, concluding that three of them cheated, writes University newspaper.
Thus, students are deprived of the university for two semesters, and the aforementioned exams are cancelled.
One case concerned a bachelor’s thesis where the examiner suspected that all or parts of the thesis had been created using ChatGPT. The mission included, among other things, several errors.
The other two cases relate to a Master’s course and a Bachelor’s course. In both cases, there were errors and omissions in the references and source references, which made the examiner suspect fraud.
None of the three students reported using AI tools. He concluded that there was insufficient evidence of fraud in the fourth and final case.
