An hour before kick-off between Liverpool and Fulham at Anfield, the Reds’ opponents in the FA Cup third round have been confirmed. It won’t be easy.
Jurgen Klopp’s men have to go to the Emirates to face Arsenal, a draw that can only be described as very tough/unlucky.
The last time the two teams met in the FA Cup was in the 2013/14 season, when the Reds lost 2-1 after goals from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (then at Arsenal), Lukas Podolski and Steven Gerrard.
The clubs also played against each other in the League Cup semi-final almost two years ago. The Anfield match then finished 0-0, before a solid 2-0 win secured the Reds’ promotion to the Emirates Stadium. Liverpool won the cup (and the FA Cup) that season.
64 teams participate in the third round of the League Cup.
More Premier League matches
Arsenal – Liverpool is one of four Premier League matches in the third round. Wolves will also visit Brentford, and Everton will have to travel to Crystal Palace. Tottenham will visit Burnley.
Manchester City, Chelsea and West Ham all got home games against easier opposition. Manchester United, Aston Villa and Newcastle must play on unfamiliar ground. The latter in particular may find it difficult, as he will be playing a local derby against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
