Elitserin, YMCA Oslo | Oslo YMCA duo sign new contracts after promotion

Young centre-back duo Matthijs Tonsen (20) and Momodou Leon Njie (22) were important players for KFUM Oslo, who secured a historic promotion to Eletserien last season.

Throughout the winter, both attracted interest from top clubs. Tønessen in particular has been sought out, and TV 2 recently wrote that Tromsø, like last summer, has made a bid for the “Kåffa” stopper.

He rejects Tromsø's offer – and reaches out to the YMCA

They are looking for a stopper after Justin Gundersen bumped TIL and signed Bodø/Glimt. Tromsø coach Gaute Helstrup, like Gundersen, chose to go to Glimt and become Kjetil Knutsen's assistant.

The offer for the 20-year-old was supposed to be a few million kroner, but nowhere near enough for the Oslo YMCA management to accept the offer. Now, however, the transfer speculation surrounding both Tonson and Leon N'Jie can be put to rest for a while. The latter had previously received some attention from Sweden.

Nettavisen can reveal on Monday that the two have now agreed new contract extensions with KFUM Oslo. In recent days, the two parties have held several meetings and talks and according to information, the duo is signing agreements extending until 2026. Tonsen and Leon Njie's current contracts essentially expire after the 2024 season.

The contract extension is expected to be confirmed in the coming days.

Nettavisen previously stated that YMCA players waited to sign new contracts for various reasons. But Ekeberg's small club Oslo have always wanted a contract extension with the two centre-backs – and now that is in the works too.

Thus, the pursuit of the TIL centre-back once again gained another shot in the arm. There is now little sign of the Tonson region moving north this winter. The 20-year-olds should also be ready to play for the YMCA in Eliteserien this season and continue their development there for another term.

Tromso has also placed bids for both Vetle Skjærvik (LSK) and Jesper Taaje (Sandefjord). LSK sporting director Simon Mesvin confirmed on Monday that they have rejected all offers for Skiarvik and that the club's new coach Andreas Georgesson wants to take a closer look at the player before the club makes its decision.

Strømsgodset has also made a bid for Taaje and the centre-back prefers to go to Drammen for several reasons, Nettavisen has been informed. At the moment, Sandefjord are demanding more money to sell the former YMCA goalkeeper, but the clubs are still in dialogue.
