Vladimir Putin – says he would stop war in Ukraine if he becomes president – challenges Dagsavisen

– My first task will be to stop the conflict with Ukraine, and then restore normal relations between Russia and the West, says Boris Nadezhdin to BBC.

He has a domestic political background of more than three decades and was seen as a former ally of the Putin regime, where Nadezhdin's criticism of the Kremlin has until now been tolerated.

Nadezhdin himself says he has criticized Putin for the past 10 years.

– He practically destroyed the main institutions of modern Russia. My mission will be to restore these institutions, the competitor says.

Nadezhdin says he has collected more than 100,000 signatures needed to run for the presidential election. Therefore, it is believed that he will get the green light to participate, although unconfirmed sources, according to the BBC, say that candidates who oppose the war will be banned.

However, Nadezhdin realizes that he is unlikely to win the presidential election.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Nadezhdin was not viewed as a contender and that he would be allowed to run if he met the conditions.
