Game maker Nintendo expects to earn 440 billion yen – 32 billion kroner – this year. The seven-year-old Nintendo Switch gaming console is still selling well.
Combined with a weaker Japanese yen, this increases Nintendo's profits.
In total, 139.4 million Switch consoles have been sold, with 13.74 million sold since the start of the fiscal year on March 1, 2023. A whopping 1.2 billion games have also been sold for the console.
The Switch is both a portable console and a TV console, designed to please gamers both older and younger.
Among the games produced by Nintendo itself, the best-selling game in the past nine months is “Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.” More than 20 million copies have been sold to date. By comparison, the seven-year-old “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe” sold 6.8 million copies in the same period. In total, the car game has sold more than 60 million copies since its release.
There have long been rumors that Nintendo will release an updated version of the Switch. But this is still a long way off and could take until the beginning of 2025. Other analysts believe the launch will come before Christmas this year.
– This fiscal year is the seventh year since the launch of Nintendo Switch, but sales are stable and good. The company writes that there are more paying users each year than ever before.
440 billion yen is an increase from 420 billion yen previously forecast.
