Björn Sundquist has long outlived his grandfather – a role he plays in the new Norwegian zombie film 'Handling the undead'. In the same week that the film premiered in Norway, the launch party for the band's debut album Best was also in the spotlight.
Sundquist is on board with Trond Granlund and Americana by Norwegian artist Johan Berggren. Fjerdemann is writer Yngve Kveine, who works day-to-day as BI and is responsible for the powerful poems that started it all.
Seven times as many new GPs
Now, in the spotlight, Best receives praise from music critics, among other things, for his way of fusing music and poetry.
The words hit
The veteran actor has more to do than ever before, but he still has room to join Best in the spotlight after reading Kveine's poems.
– There are wonderful texts that caught my attention, and I myself stay up a lot, and they have a character that is partly meditative. They remind me of myself – where you go and wait for daylight and daylight waits for you. I like contradictions in poems, because I myself am full of contradictions, Sundquist sums up his reaction.
Yngve Kveine wrote the lyrics for himself. They appealed to the legends he came into contact with.
– He wrote for himself quite honestly, but it's for the rest of us too, says Sundquist, while Trond Granlund of the party scene tells Kveine:
-You wrote me some nice notes.
Three generations
– I write to understand life and experience peace. If you can manage a little sentence, paragraph or poem, it's a good day, Kveine tells NTB, revealing what lies behind the band's title:
– Life is not straight. Some days, details are blurry, and in the backlight we see it better: the contours of all that was, and all that could be.
Disappointed with the recommendation: – We are completely negative
The tunes were composed by two-time Spellemann nominee Johann Berggren. The seemingly disjointed team – spanning three generations – then gathered in a studio in Trøgstad to record the double album “Daglyset venter”. They were supported by Berggren's regular band Trøgstad Musikkompani.
He wanted to be a musician
-I forget my age when I do things like this. Something happens that erases all ages, only the words and music matter – along with the group, the joy of working together with someone. This is when magic can happen, says Sandquist, who likens it to playing soccer.
– You can do a lot of things with the ball, but you can only score goals with others!
Fraud calls are coming out: – We are all a target
Bjorn Sundquist I played as a youth In the band, he still has guitars at home and occasionally gets into “domestic trouble.” He reveals to NTB that at one point in his life he oscillated between becoming a musician and an actor.
-I've loved the guitar since the first time I picked one up. Then I participated in an amateur play when I was 16 and I felt like I had succeeded. You just understand how it should be, and how the musicians feel too. I tried to get into theater school and thought that if I didn't get in, I would keep acting. But then I walked right in. Then it was done.
complete
Now, the primarily busy Sundquist has to clear space on the calendar so there can be more Best i Motlys concerts.
He will first take part in a “secret film, in a big role”, and prepare performances with the Transitteatret in Bergen, before in the summer playing a double role as Dovregubbe and the priest in “Peer Gynt” in Gålå.
A recent study on newborns of mothers vaccinated against Corona: – A very important result
Your career is your hobby, says Björn Sundquist, who says he has an important criterion for saying yes:
– It should be fun.
