Mark Knopfler forms a new supergroup

World-famous vocalist and guitarist Mark Knopfler (74) has brought together an amazing number of musicians in the Guitar Heroes group. More than 60 legends will be part of contributing to a song similar to “We Are The World.” He writes that the lineup includes some of the biggest names in rock and roll Rolling Stone.

What they have in common is that they are all guitarists (it's in the group's name, after all), and that they contribute to the remake of Knopfler's song “Going Home,” which was the closing instrument in the movie “Local Hero.”

The purpose of the new edition is to raise money to go toward the fight against cancer, a disease that Knopfler himself went through.

Contributions to the remake came from all over the world, and Jay Fletcher was responsible for bringing everything together. Peter Thomas Blake (91), who was responsible for the album design for the Beatles' recording “Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band”, was responsible for creating the design for this collaboration.

– What I want to do, more than anything else, is to thank each and every one of them for their response. I didn't know it was going to end up this way, but we understood very early on that we had to expand the song somehow, so everyone could contribute.

He describes the cooperation as wonderful.

– He says the whole thing was a highlight.

The song will be released on March 15.
