Russian President Vladimir Putin reportedly proposed a ceasefire in Ukraine last year, but the US rejected it after contact through intermediaries, three Russian sources claim. Reuters.
But an American source denies the existence of any official contact, and says that Washington will not participate in talks that do not include Ukraine.
Late last year, Putin allegedly sent signals through intermediaries to the United States that he was ready for a ceasefire. Discussions on this matter should have been held at the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024.
Dagbladet mentioned the Russian proposal in December, which should have been that the front lines in place today would become permanent and the areas occupied by Russia would become part of Russia.
Contact with the Americans did not lead to anything, a senior Russian source familiar with the talks told Reuters.
Ukraine said earlier that there was no need for a ceasefire until all areas occupied by Russia were liberated.
