Ola Svenneby believes the hugely popular app could pose a threat to national security.

He believes the party should call for a complete ban on the app, which is hugely popular in Norway, at the national meeting in June. Svenby justifies the strict measure by saying that TikTok could pose a threat to national security.
– It is known that the Chinese authorities have great influence and use technology effectively to influence public opinion, says Svenby.

– Tik Tok is in a special mode
The young Conservative Party leader's move comes on the same day that the United States House of Representatives passed a bill regarding a possible ban on Tiktok in the United States. According CNN The US ban will, among other things, prevent Apple and Google from offering the app for download.
Svenby doesn't have an answer on how the ban would be implemented in practice, but he says he assumes it is possible.
– Ideally, we would also like to have EU countries join the ban. Unge Høyre leader says this will make implementation easier.
Svenby stresses that he does not believe that all applications developed by Chinese companies should be banned.
He says that TikTok has a special place because of the popularity of the application and because it is used to influence children and young people through the use of algorithms.
Accept double standards
-You and Unge Høyre are active on Tiktok, even if you're dying to be blocked. Why?
– I wish I could escape, but Tiktok is so dominant that it would be pointless not to be there, Svenby replies.
He adds that a potential ban proposal would do nothing about that.
– If Unge Høyre supports this proposal, we will still have double standards and we will be on Tiktok, he says.
– We manage without TikTok
Høyre and Frp were the two largest parties in last year's school elections, receiving 21.9 and 19.5 per cent of the vote respectively. Political commentary was quick to point to the presence on TikTok as an explanation for the parties’ progress and the right’s victory in the elections.
-Do you still want to block the app?
– Yes, there is actually a possibility that we did well in the school elections because young people agree with our politics. Svenebi answers: We will be able to promote politics in arenas other than TikTok.
