Dennis Hugger (20) has apologized to the team after missing and crashing out of the main race in Australia.
The race is still on.
– Fortunately, it's only Dennis's pride that's hurt, says Atle Gullbrandsen in the Viaplay broadcast when Hoger climbs out of the wreckage.
The accident occurred immediately after changing the wheel on the eleventh lap of the race.
– There seems to be tension and desperation, says Viaplay commentator Henning Esdal.
– Maybe Dennis tried to set the pace a little higher than he should have. Can we remember a similar buzz for Dennis? Asks Isdal.
– It seems to come too quickly and lock the wheels.
Huger himself sighed in despair over the team radio. It will be his first win in a main event in nearly two years after winning a qualifier for the first time. But the win in Baku in 2022 remains his only major win in Formula 2.
After a difficult opening in Bahrain, Dennis Hoger took victory in the sprint race and third place in the main race in Saudi Arabia.
In the sprint race in Melbourne on Saturday, Hoger finished third – but a penalty meant he finished second.
So he started in the best starting position on Sunday night Norwegian time.
Dennis Hauger started first, but Andrea Kimi Antonelli (17) passed him on the second lap. The Aurskog man regained the lead in the DRS zone.
Both Hoger and Antonelli complained early on about tire wear, but the virtual safety car meant the tires “rested” a bit. Kush Maini took the lead before Hauger pulled out to change tyres.
The collision occurred after an almost perfect stop.
Ishaq Hajjar won the race. The Frenchman was also first to finish in Saturday's sprint, but then received a penalty that dropped him to sixth. Zane Maloney finished third and thus increased his overall lead. Huger is number three overall.
Oliver Pearman – who shone brightly when he replaced Carlos Sainz in the Formula 1 race in Saudi Arabia – had a difficult weekend in Formula 2 which ended in a spin towards the end of the race on Sunday. He finished last in points.
The next Formula 2 race will not take place until Imola on the weekend of May 17.
