Logie Thomasson, Stromsgodset | He plays football in Norway: he is a pop star in his homeland

Marbella (Netafsen): Luigi Thomasson is perhaps not the most well-known name to football fans in this country. The Icelander came to Strømsgodset last summer as a relatively nondescript card.

He gradually established himself as an important player in Drammen.

However, he is a big star in his homeland. And it's not just football, but for completely different reasons. Because in addition to his football career, Thomason has also achieved great success in another field – as a pop star.

-You wrote a song with a man who is now one of the most famous artists in Iceland. He's a friend of mine and we've known each other for a few years,” Thomasson told Netavicin about what ensures him star status in his home country.

-One of the greatest pop songs of this century

Together with his friend Patrick, known as “Prettyboitjokko”, Tomasson released the song “Skína”. In Iceland, Luigi uses the stage name “Luigi”.

In 2023, the song broke records and topped the charts for several weeks. At the time of writing, it is approaching 2 million streams on Spotify.

Earlier in March, the song also rose to the top spot during the Music Awards in Iceland, where it won Song of the Year in the Hip-Hop, Pop and Rock category.

– I didn't think it would be this big. It became number one in Iceland and stayed there for 4-5 months. He says it almost became one of the biggest pop songs of the century.

After last year's season, Thomason was home for Christmas break, so it was time to perform as well. Logie was with his friend on Iceland's biggest talk show where they performed their huge hit to the entire country live in prime time.

– He has 200,000 viewers. It's funny, he says of the talk show, which can be compared to Sinquefield and Skavlan, which in their time occupied Friday evenings at home in Norway.

Combines music and football

At the same time as he is fully committed to his football career alongside the hard-working Strømsgodset team, he also keeps up with music when he has the time. Thomasson says he doesn't spend a lot of time on it during the season in Norway.

– I don't have much time to work on it here. Maybe I'll release something later this year or next year.

– In Norway, I'm just a lugie doing my job on the field. It's not often that I get into this “Luigi” character. “I'm an extrovert, but when I'm here I like to be more focused and closed off,” he says.

This winter, Thomasson has impressed on the football pitch in the build-up to next season, but the start in Norway has been far from easy.

– The first two months were difficult. I had Covid and it took some time to get into the group and get used to the way the team plays because it's different from what I'm used to. After that, he made good strides, he says, and points out that he is very satisfied with the way coach Jurgen Esnes treats him.

– He talks to me well. He's a little different from previous coaches. We have a good relationship.

Big dreams

Godset's return makes no secret of the fact that he dreams big and has ambitions to improve in order to achieve new goals in his career on the football field. In Iceland, he is part of a new generation of emerging players.

While the Icelanders were once seen as hard-working, quiet players, the 23-year-old says he is part of a group of players who also like to show their personality off the pitch.

-We have some characters in Iceland now. We can't be that boring, so I like it. It's good to have some personality, says Thomasson, who believes Strømsgodset can surprise in a positive way this season.
