They went to the place and brought the kittens and started the work of finding out who was with them.

– Pop up in all directions
Two representatives of Dyrebeskyttelsen went home and the information turned out to be correct.
– This is the only spice for cats. We couldn’t count how many animals there were, and they appeared in all directions, Graf says.
Based on the site’s estimates, there were about 40 cats in the house. Many of the animals had health problems and appeared to be in poor condition.
– It was like a kitten had died. It just completely knocked out. This has a strong impact when you look at the suffering, pain and illness of animals.
Inflammation of the eye and earworms
The three kittens were immediately picked up by animal care because they were in poor condition. TV2 saw the animal records of two of them.
One cat was diagnosed with worms and eye inflammation, while the other cat had swollen eyes with swollen pus.

In total, the animal protection ended with eleven cats from that location. Five of them had severe eye inflammation that needed to be treated, while five of the kittens also had ear worms.
Retained cats
After the visit, Graf called the Norwegian Food Safety Authority and explained the case in detail. When the Norwegian Food Safety Authority was first implicated in the case, the woman was on her way to Hayanger.
– Two representatives of the Norwegian Food Safety Authority went there. We don’t know more, Graf says.

But the Norwegian Food Safety Authority allowed the woman to keep the cats, and soon she moved out of the place. At least one cat was removed and left alone outside the house when the animal went back for testing.
– We don’t know if there was more, says Graf.
When the woman went to Sogn og Fjordane, the Norwegian Food Safety Authority was involved in the case after being notified by the local animal protection, but the woman was allowed to keep the cats there.
All cases were closed
The chairman of the board is not at all optimistic that the Norwegian Food Safety Commission will take action, thinking someone needs to intervene.

Graf refers to last year’s reviews of Tyrebeskitelson in Bergen and Hortland. In total, they reported 15 cases to the Norwegian Food Safety Authority and the Animal Police.
But the reviews did not work. All 15 cases were dismissed.
– When we reconsider a case, it depends on respect and conscience. We have facts, witnesses and specific things on which we can stand, which are presented with review. “We are unpaid, and we spend a lot of resources volunteering for this community service,” Graf says.
Wait a long time – kill
The NOAH organization works for animal rights, and hopes that in this case it will not be noticed.

In a press conference at NOAH, Siri Martinson criticizes the fact that the Norwegian Food Safety Authority has not taken steps to prevent the situation from deteriorating.
– We react to the fact that the Norwegian Food Safety Authority has not issued an order to sterilize this type of cat, so there are more and more cats, he says.
Martinson says they have also seen before the oversight system wait until conditions for the animals are completely acceptable before doing anything about it.
– They wait until there are terrible conditions before they intervene, Martinson says, adding:
They protect many cats from poorly maintained livestock and then often wait until there is more, before they decide to go inside and kill.
– On the edge of the frame
He believes this is a wrong treatment and that the Norwegian Food Safety Authority should implement preventive measures to prevent the worsening of the situation where animals have to be killed.
– There should be rules for not breeding animals without meeting certain requirements. He says this type of animal husbandry you breed and breed should be banned.
Martinson says it is entirely possible to take good care of many animals, but that is to ensure reproductive control. She thinks it would be problematic for the Norwegian Food Safety Authority to explicitly allow some cases to go too far.
– We believe they usually allow things to go on for a very long time, and they are placed on the edge of the Animal Welfare Act.
– The pet owner should get a chance

According to Lyon, they also take into account previous concerns when evaluating new news. He says it is a combination of several factors that determine which results are implemented.

– It is about the evaluation and priorities of each individual case. “We receive several thousand anxiety reports each year, and we definitely prioritize them based on the evidence we have,” says Lyon.
The professional counselor points out that there are requirements for proper litigation under the Public Administration Act, which means that an animal owner should be given an opportunity to rectify the situation.
– If the living conditions are very bad or there are sick cats that need immediate treatment, the Norwegian Food Safety Authority can take the animals into custody during emergencies.
The experience was disappointing
The Norwegian Food Safety Authority cannot comment on the relevant case for privacy reasons. Lyon points out on a general basis that those who submit concern reports do not receive any feedback on how the lawsuit works.
– We understand that this can be frustrating for those who report a worrying report, but the fact that the animals have not been detained or relocated does not mean that the Norwegian Food Safety Authority has not complied, he says.
– Can you give an explanation of the regular health and living conditions of the cats you want to take from the owner?
– Where many cats live together, it is not uncommon for disease problems to occur without treatment for parasites or vaccination against infectious diseases. For example, cats can get parasites / intestinal worms, which can lead to diarrhea and weight loss, as well as ear infections, respiratory infections and eye infections.
TV2 is in contact with a woman who owns cats. She knew the case would be released, but did not want to comment further.
