Messenger stick/Electronic newspaper: There is every reason to say that Norway has fallen in love with Tesla. In 2023, almost every third newly registered car was from an American car brand.

We checked whether this is a charm only found in the central regions of Eastern Norway, or whether the whole of Norway has fallen in love with the rechargeable car.

Which municipality has the largest number of Tesla cars?

In the window above, you can search for your municipality to see how many Tesla cars are actually in your municipality. Among the municipalities across Norway, Bärum has the highest number of registered Tesla vehicles per resident.

In our part of the world – namely Namdalen – it is the municipality of Namsos, on the other hand, that can boast the highest number of Tesla cars, with 137 cars. At the back, Nærøysund follows with 50 Teslas.

But when you calculate the number of Tesla cars per 1,000 inhabitants, Høylandet and Røyrvik end up at the same level as Namsos – with 9 cars per 1,000 inhabitants. But there are not many cars, because Høylandet has 11 and Røyrvik 4.

Car sales mean the number of new cars registered from January 1 to December 31, 2023. Figures for 2022 are in parentheses. These numbers apply to what appears in the statistics as the former Namdal Police District.

– Its price decreased

Henrik Næss (47) from Fornebu is one of many Tesla owners. The Bærum man bought the car in October 2023, when he intended to replace his Toyota hybrid. Why was it a Tesla when it had to be replaced, there will be a quick answer.

– Because prices decreased.

You have nothing but positive things to say about the car so far.

– It's very nice to own and drive a Tesla. At least if you have a charging station at home, like I do, Henrik says.

– Have you noticed anything about the price of car maintenance after changing the car?

– Yes, it has become much cheaper.

In second place above the municipalities with the highest number of Tesla cars is the municipality of Ostivol Island. Ústivöll is the most populous municipality in Norway without connection to the mainland, and the municipality is one of the largest salmon-farming municipalities in Norway. We asked Mayor Binti Kari Sletten-Tarranger, of the Conservative Party, why she thought that was the case:

-I think a lot of people got an electric car because traveling by ferry with an electric car was cheaper compared to a fossil car. Many of them have an electric car with a long range, because a lot of cars are driven in the municipality, and there are long distances to work, leisure activities, etc. With public transportation so poor, there will be a lot of driving, unfortunately.

Høll, in third place, is a municipality located in eastern Norway on the border with Baerum in the east.
