The war between Hamas and Israel

Briefly

  • An Israeli soldier threatens to rebel if the government withdraws its forces from Gaza, and the video spreads on social media.
  • The Israeli army is investigating the case, and there is widespread resentment against the government for not releasing hostages held by Hamas.
  • The video was posted by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's son.

The Israel Defense Forces opened an investigation after a video of an alleged Israeli soldier in Gaza spread on social media. The soldier threatened to revolt if the government abandoned the goal of “total victory” in the war against Hamas, reports said The Times of Israel.

– The conduct in the video is a serious violation of IDF orders and IDF values, and gives rise to suspicion of criminal trespassing, defense says.

– As a pain reliever for cancer patients

Lieutenant General and Chief of Staff Herzi Halevy also ordered military commanders to immediately speak to their subordinates about the video “given the seriousness of the incident.”

Shared by Netanyahu's son

The video was first posted on X by far-right journalist Yinon Magal, and then shared by, among others, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's son and podcast host and activist Yair Netanyahu. In the video, the masked soldier says while standing in a destroyed building:

A support group for Israeli hostages captured by Hamas last year posted a video of five hostages on its platforms on Wednesday, May 22.

“Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, this video is for you. We are reserve soldiers and do not intend to hand over the keys to any Palestinian authority. We do not intend to hand over the keys of Gaza to any entity, Hamas, Fatah, or any other Arab entity. The reserves are behind you and we want to win.”

The soldier says that he will challenge Defense Minister Yoav Galant if he orders the withdrawal, and that the soldiers will obey Netanyahu exclusively.

Dissatisfaction

There is widespread resentment towards the Israeli government because it failed to release more than 100 of the approximately 240 hostages taken to Gaza during the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel on October 7 last year. says Einav Zanjoker, whose son Matan was one of the hostages Haaretz:

– While the Prime Minister's son calls for mutiny in the IDF, my son is being held hostage in Gaza.

Zangauker then addresses his son directly:

– When you return from Gaza, I will tell you that the government has failed you and us.
