Here, First Lady Brigitte Macron breaks royal etiquette in a meeting with Queen Camilla

Thursday 6 June marked 80 years to the day that the Allies invaded Normandy in Nazi-occupied France, during World War II.

Among those attending the commemoration ceremony were Crown Prince Haakon (50), US President Joe Biden (81), French President Emmanuel Macron (46), and King Charles (75).

The latter's two wives, First Lady Brigitte Macron (71 years old) and Queen Camilla (76 years old), also attended. Their meeting subsequently made headlines in the international media.

In the photos you can see that Camilla does not return Brigitte's handshake, and keeps her hand to herself. This led to an awkward moment where you could see the First Lady reaching out and then holding the Queen's hand around hers.

It appears in the video that Camila was not interested in holding Brigitte's hand. But it's also possible that the Queen simply didn't register the First Lady's gesture.

The 71-year-old quickly left the British Queen's hands.

Charles, on the other hand, seemed to take a more casual approach to etiquette during the meeting.
