David Lange, a member of the Sweden Democrats, sang “Aliens Abroad” during the EU election vigil. He is now leaving the Swedish National Assembly.
This was stated by SD Group Leader Linda Lindberg Aftonbladet.
– At my request, David Lange has chosen to resign from his position in Parliament. He has sat in Parliament since we joined in 2010 and has done well for the party, says Lindberg.
– This does not detract from his reckless behavior yesterday, which he himself understands. Against this background, he chose to leave his seat in the Riksdag.
Lange received criticism after he sang along to the 1990s German hit “L'Amour Toujours” during an EU election vigil, which became popular in far-right circles (see video at top of story).
one of pass Journalists were interviewing another SD politician, when Lange could be heard singing “ausländer raus” – which means “foreigners out”.
According to Expressen, Lang allegedly attacked the reporter, refused to answer why he sang the clip and then left the election vigil.
-I picked up this song on social media. I now understand that the text was sung in contexts of which I did not yet have in-depth knowledge, Lange tells Aftonbladet.
-I apologize if I offended anyone. To show that I take this matter seriously, I have given up my place in Parliament.
There was also a big reaction in Germany after a video went viral showing several people singing the song at a club on the holiday island of Sylt:
