The death toll continues to rise during the Hajj season in Saudi Arabia. So far, at least 900 deaths have been recorded in the heat wave, according to Agence France-Presse.

However, there are concerns that the numbers could be higher. According to an Arab diplomat, at least 600 Egyptians have died, compared to the 320 reported yesterday.

Meanwhile, at least 68 deaths were recorded among Indian pilgrims and at least 87 deaths among Jordanian pilgrims. In addition, pilgrims from Indonesia, Iraq, Iran, Senegal and Tunisia lost their lives.

According to Agence France-Presse, 922 people have died so far. Saudi Arabia has not yet commented on the deaths.

Most of the deaths are related to the extreme heat that Saudi Arabia is currently experiencing. The temperature on Monday was measured at 51.8 degrees.

Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam and is defined according to Islamic law as a religious duty for all Muslims who have the opportunity to go to Mecca.

The Hajj includes a number of activities that take place outdoors under the hot sun. Among other things, thousands of pilgrims walk around the great Cubist shrine of the Kaaba.
