In the last 24 hours, several media outlets have written that UEFA rules stand in the way of a transfer for centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo, who may be the man Ratcliffe is referring to.
In the interview, Ratcliffe also spoke about the challenges surrounding Financial Fair Play, and when asked what he thought of the regulations, he responded:
– They are very complicated! There are two sets of Financial Fair Play rules, the Premier League has one and UEFA has one, and they are different. So it becomes very complicated.
– In the modern world, it is difficult to answer (how much can United spend this summer), due to the many rules that determine how much we can and cannot spend. We have FFP to deal with.
However, the transfer window has opened, and Ratcliffe is open that United are looking for reinforcements.
– We are in the middle of the transition period, and we are doing the same as all other clubs, which is to look at where the gaps are in the team and what are the possibilities to fill them.
– It will take time
At the same time, Ratcliffe explained that they would need several transition windows to put all the pieces in place.
– I'm not sure if we will be able to solve all the problems in the first transfer window. It will take time.
He points out that key appointments such as Omar Berrada and Dan Ashworth have not yet been made.
