Henry of Luxembourg is the sixth head of the Nassau-Weilburg dynasty. He inherited the throne in 2000 when his father abdicated. He announced on Sunday that he will hand over power to his 42-year-old son next October. Guillaume is married to the Belgian Countess Stephanie de Lannoy. The couple has two sons who study in Switzerland.
– With all my love and complete trust, I wish him good luck, says the Grand Duke.
However, this is only the first step in a large-scale process that may take several years.
– This is the beginning of a new chapter for our monarchy, says the country's Prime Minister Luke Frieden, according to local media.

The Grand Duke mostly only has acting as his job today. In 2008, a constitutional amendment deprived him of his right to suspend laws. This happened following his refusal, as a Catholic, to sign the law allowing euthanasia.
Grand Duke Henry's late mother, Grand Duchess Josephine-Charlotte of Luxembourg, was a cousin of King Harald. The Grand Duke is therefore the triplets of Crown Prince Haakon and Princess Märtha Louise.
