On Saturday night, a Christmas celebration quickly turned into a nightmare for a Canadian couple. Emma McLean and Tori Hogan were walking down a street in downtown Halifax when they suddenly found themselves in a very dangerous situation.

A passerby alerted a police patrol that was in the area, but when they arrived at the scene, the assault on the basket was over. They should have spoken to some of the men involved, according to MacLean.

The police officer reportedly said one of the men claimed the couple attacked them first. The others involved were uncooperative.

Police told CTV News the incident is under investigation, but no charges have been filed.

The incident was also filmed by eyewitnesses.

Broken nose and bruises

Both McClain and Hogan were injured in the incident. Hogan suffered bruises on his arm and under his eye, and McClain broke his nose, had more bruises and a broken tooth, CTV News reported.

“I felt the punches and kicks, and then I felt it on my nose, and it was blood,” McLean says. “I thought, ‘This has to stop now.’”

Although several days have passed since the incident, she is still in shock.

“I’m afraid to go to the centre again in Halifax,” she says. “I feel like what could happen is beyond your control.”
