Apple sales down 76 percent

IDC believes Apple's Vision Pro sales have declined significantly.

According to analysts at IDC, sales are down 75 percent this quarter. There are three obvious reasons: price, access, and ecosystem. The product has just launched in several countries, but it’s too early to say anything about sales there, so this is an analysis based on the US market.

Taking the sales decline into account, IDC believes Apple won't reach the half-million mark in its first year of sales. The VIsion Pro was launched on February 2nd of this year.

Apple may have relied on this.

It’s Bloomberg that quotes IDC, which calculates that Apple has yet to sell 100,000 Vision Pros in any quarter since launch. IDC, like us, doesn’t think sales will pick up much, and the product lineup is unlikely to become the winner in the segment until the company chooses to launch a more affordable version at roughly half the price. IDC also notes that content is important, including the content of the site the owner is on.

Our view is that the Vision Pro is a demonstration of the technology, and that the price, weight, and battery life almost guarantee it will be a big hit in sectors like mobile, audio products, TVs, and the like. Of course, Apple knows this too, so the first-generation Pro is a place to start, as well as a place to start building the ecosystem. Many VR/AR headsets have failed due to lack of content. Apple at least has the advantage of TV+ and a unified ecosystem.

Impressive technology, but too expensive and heavy for many, is the overall assessment of critics of Apple's first headphone.
