More than 100,000 transferees in the workforce:

In a laboratory at Hockland University Hospital, two firm hands ensure the creation of fine, jam-packed sections of tissue samples.

The work that bio engineer Leon Legg does is very important if doctors are to make an accurate diagnosis. It’s often about timely detection of cancers.

– The work is very motivating and interesting, we have a good work environment. So here I am growing up, says Leg, who works in the Department of Pathology at Hawkland University Hospital.

Work rather than social security

Leon, 29, contracted polio at the age of five. At the age of 17, he came to Norway as a refugee from Myanmar. Leon always wanted to work.

– Why is it important that you work? You may have disability benefits, right?

– Yes, I can get social security, but I get more financial freedom when I am at work, at least I feel more independent.

Lyon wants to be a contributor to a community that has supported and helped her for many years. He wants to be financially independent and happily pays his taxes.

Shock choices

Today, more than 100,000 people with disabilities are lined up to work, according to the Disability Collective (FFO). Most people prefer to work rather than passively receive social security.

Shock Report: A report consisting of two studies concludes that Nav is not working adequately. As a result fewer people with disabilities come to work.

A The latest report gives the FFO result Two studies. They reveal that most people with disabilities in employment have worked for themselves. In addition, work-related activities do not greatly contribute to the employment of people, and few are aware of existing public support programs to facilitate the workplace for the disabled.

1120 people responded to a survey, which states that 85 percent were able to find work on their own. Only six percent say they got the job with the help of the tongue.

– NAV’s help to get a job has little effect. FFO Secretary-General Lily Ann Elvestad says those who come out of work have done so without the aid of normal application processes and the tongue.

How many people have gone to the tongue, without getting the help they need, before they even get a job, there are no exact statistics.

– But our experience is that 85 percent of people have started with the tongue, and sometimes need help from the nave without getting it, Elvestad tells TV2.

More than fifty job denials were received

From the wheelchair, Leon helps save lives, but she’s definitely not at work. The path to permanent employment and a steady income is demanding.

Outstanding: Love boasts about being a nice and well-connected person, but not getting her a job via Nav.

– I applied for more than fifty jobs, but was always rejected. Someone did not respond to my application. I got a call an hour before the interview. Since I was in a wheelchair, I was no longer fit for the job. It was a depressing time, I was close to giving up, the 29-year-old agrees.

But Leon never gave up. Eventually, without the help of her tongue, she fixed the dream job.

Lyon’s boss is wonderfully happy with the always smiling and positive colleague.

– Great shortage of biological engineers today. Johann Lind Asson, executive director of the pathology department at Hockland University Hospital, says we need everyone we can shake hands with, and that helping Leon get to where she is today is utterly helpless.

Satisfied Manager: - She is doing a good job, we are all very happy with Lyon, the head of the department Johanne Lindt Assen smiles.

And failed employers

According to the FFO, the second language survey targeting employers shows that we too are failing here.

– Nav should play a more proactive role in relation to information and active support for employers, says Elvestad.

Employers at 500 companies, among others, have answered questions about people with disabilities’ knowledge of recruitment, support programs, and access to people with disabilities.

For example, the survey shows that only two out of ten companies are aware of the facility requirements for financial assistance.

As a result, according to the FFO, many companies employ less people with disabilities, according to Elvestod.

Only half the companies know where they can get information or get help in organizing the workplace.

– Only one in ten companies has an active recruitment strategy for disabled and chronic illness, even in public administration and education, according to FFO TV 2.

Sorry to hear that

Bioengineer believes leg reading does not encourage reading.

It is very sad to hear this in 2021. People with multiple disabilities are at home, even if they want to work, and many are highly educated, Lyon tells TV2.

He believes it is important that investigations are followed.

Nav disagrees

– FFO We look forward to hearing from you soon. John says it’s positive to manage many people without the help of NAV, but it’s important to get help from those in need and the projects we have are well known, says John Eric Gruntjernlion, director of the department at Navi.

The FFO survey shows that established programs to reduce barriers and help working people do not work. The FFO’s report shows that only partial employment is possible with such solutions. The majority get jobs through completely normal application processes.

It is good for many people with disabilities to get a job on their own, but there are also people with disabilities who get jobs with the help of NAV. The plan with the use of wage grants and guidance grants has increased in 2021, which shows that many are coming to work with the support of the NAV.

Disagree: - dept.dir states that we do not acknowledge that NAV's assistance in going to work has little effect. John Eric Gruntjernlion in Nav.

The findings show a general lack of knowledge about what helps the tongue and what helps the tongue to get a job. What do you think Nav can do to better succeed with work-based activities for the disabled?

– We do not recognize that NAV’s assistance in getting to work has little effect. It is well documented that many labor market activities have an impact on job transfers, Grundtjernlien told TV 2 in an email.

Political action is needed

As an opposition party, the Labor Party has called for a 100 percent job guarantee for young people with developmental disabilities and for initiating measures to bring more disabled people to work. Labor wants to make it easier and cheaper for employers to hire people with lower work capacity.

– Now I expect the new government to actively participate in this field. I also look forward to the order from the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, and I expect Nav to address this seriously.

Important: I expect Nav to take an active part in this, says the Secretary-General of the Coalition of Persons with Disabilities.

– What to do?

They need to look deeper into what obstacles people with disabilities face. And we should take as our starting point that many transgender people have good talent. Elvestod believes they have good skills and should be given the opportunity to get a job.

More suggestions

More than 100,000 transferees are voluntarily out of work.

– Therefore, it acts in a timely manner with a thorough assessment of public actions, so they actually function as desired, says Perit Therese Larson, FFO Interest Policy Head.

The FFO makes the following recommendations to ensure better integration of job seekers with disabilities:

Public and private companies with more than 50 employees must have a recruitment strategy for the employment of the disabled and the chronically ill.

In addition, strict enforcement of the Discrimination Act should be introduced so that highly qualified applicants with disabilities are invited to the job interview.

The requirements for the global design of workplaces and ICT systems should be explicitly included in the Gender Equality and Discrimination Act.

NAV and responsible authorities must ensure that information and guidance on facility support is available to all companies and job seekers.

Higher educated transgender people need to be given more knowledge about why they are not at work. Lack of knowledge about excluding this group.
